Matt and Renee Dodson
An FFA Love Story
Matt and Renee Dodson both grew up in south-central PA. Matt was a member of the Chambersburg FFA chapter; Renee Dodson was a member of the Shippensburg FFA chapter. They met at a youth group event in 2009 but became closer friends through FFA activities and church events. Beginning in high school, Matt and Renee dated off and on for a few years before marrying in August 2014. Renee shared "we are grateful for the many experiences and friendships we had during our time in the FFA. As friends, and later as a couple, we supported one another when we ran for Pennsylvania FFA State Office." Matt served as Chaplain on the 2011-12 State Officer Team and was the Pennsylvania FFA National Officer Candidate in 2013. Renee served as Chaplain on the 2012-13 State Officer Team.
These days, the couple lives close to Lexington, Kentucky. Matt wears several different hats: groundskeeper at Asbury University, Masters of Mental Health Counseling student at Asbury Theological Seminary, Home Church Pastor at Plowshares BIC, and he operates a small lawn care business on the side. Matt shared "My time in FFA gave me the ability and confidence to continually grow and challenge myself in life. This has been invaluable in everything I pursue.”
Renee works for Lexington Rescue Mission (LRM) as the Advance Lexington Coordinator. LRM is a faith-based organization that works with individuals and families who are homeless, low-income, or coming from recovery or detention centers. In her role, Renee assists people in obtaining employment, either directly with companies or through LRM’s temporary staffing program. Renee credits FFA with her professional success. "FFA helped me develop into a competent professional, which has carried over into my career as a social worker."
